If your church turned off the lights for the final time, shut and locked the doors, never to open them again, would your community miss you? Would they notice? Would they care?
They should—and we are responsible to demonstrate that we make a difference. Think of it. Each local church is to be a visible expression of the body of Christ. We are His hands to help, His feet to go to those who are hurting, His lips to speak words of hope, His heart to pulse with His love.
The Lord stated His mission, “ ‘just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many,’ ” (Matt. 20:28 NKJV). Christ went about doing good—serving others—and as the ultimate expression of His love, pouring out His life’s blood.
Let’s be like Jesus! We can see closed minds opened and hard hearts softened to the Gospel as we reach out in compassion. Our aim is not just to make people feel better or meet needs—though there is nothing wrong with that. Our goal is to show the reality of God’s love and create conversations about John 3:16.
ServeNC is a wonderful opportunity for that. Many Baptists across North Caroline are going to focus on that August 1-8. Sign up, pray for blessing, choose service projects, and enlist your members.
