THE EPIDEMIC OF BIBLICAL ILLITERACY

A recent study revealed that 80% of American adults have never read the Bible through. We may hope that in our churches, that statistic is better--but I doubt very much. In conversations with professing Christians, I find the lack of understanding of fundamental doctrines and Biblical stories shocking.

There is a cure--READ YOUR BIBLE!

There are several issues. We do not read much--of anything. Our government schools have been better at indoctrination with secularism than education in basics. That is not to say we do not have solid Christian teachers who are trying, but they are very outnumbered. This will be a challenge to fix--if correctable.

But, there is a correction to the Biblical illiteracy in our churches. It starts with getting children into the Word. One of the wonderful tools for that is BIBLE DRILL. Yet, few of our churches utilize this. For years, Lisa Leatherwood--who attends Mt. Zion--has been relentless in pushing this, with only marginal response. It is not a failure on her part, but on ours to support that ministry.

She wants it to succeed and so she needs help. Lisa plans to continue to participate, but would like someone to step up and step out in leading this--somebody else to beat the drum.
