AWAKENING TO THE ABOMINATION OF ABORTION

It was around 1974--and I was a newlywed and a new Christian. Just a few years earlier, I was a pot-smoking hippie saying "Peace brother," and a supporter of George McGovern's run for President. Abortion was not on my radar--until I made a flippant remark about it as I stood in the kitchen of our mobile home. The horrified look on my sweet little wife's face, and her blunt words in my face let me know I might ought to study this matter more carefully!

I had never seen an ultrasound of a preganant woman. I was like Prissy who told Scarlett in "Gone With the Wind," "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies!"

But, I found out. I learned that abortion and Biblical faith are incompatible. This was my awakening to the abomination of abortion. I have been staunchly pro-life now for 50 years. The wanton destruction of babies in the womb is so demonic and depraved. Their blood cries out to God for vengence. Yet, so much of our culture celebrates this slaughter.

So, do not look the other way. It is horrifying to examine the details of abortion, but it should stir us to action.

Speak up.

Support pro-life organizations like Mountain Area Pregnancy Services.

Help struggling single moms.

Consider fostering and adoption of children.

This Sunday is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, and I hope that it will claim attention in the worship gathering of our churches.
