BACK TO [SUNDAY] SCHOOL!

Schools have started back up. Whether a government school, private school, or homeschool, it is a big deal for parents, teachers, and students. Sunday School is a big deal too! Do you want to have a STRONG Sunday School?

S--reminds us of SUPPLICATION. The Great Commandment is to love God with all our being. We gather for worship. Making contact with the power of God is required for a strong Sunday School. Is prayer foundational in your Sunday School?

T--underscores that Sunday School is about TRANSFORMATION. Paul in Romans 12:2 reminds us that we will be conformed to the world or transformed by the Word. We must not be content with students who just hear the Word--they must be doers also. Are you seeing transformation through the renewed minds of the members?

R--speaks of RELATIONSHIPS. Certainly, we are to love God, but also to love people. We need community. The loving fellowship of the class is essential. It brings accountability and offers ministry. Is your class a place where people are bonding together?

O--signifies ORGANIZATION. Your skeleton is not something visible, but if that structure is not in place you would just be a blob. The organization of the Sunday School and the classes is like that skeleton. Having leaders who are in place, using their gifts is required. Maintaining class rolls to track ministry opportunities and identify outreach prospects is important. How strong is your organizational structure?

N--stands for NUTRITION. This is discipleship. It is meeting people where they are and helping move them where they need to go. Some are babes and need milk. But as they are fed they mature and need meat. The objective is to grow them up so they can reproduce. A mature class is a multiplying classes. Is your goal simply to maintain your class or grow it--even launching new classes?

G--is for GOSPEL. Evangelism is at the core of Sunday School. Our mission is the Great Commission. The Sunday School can be one of the best means of outreach. How often do you challenge the class to share the Gospel and if you are a teacher, do you model that?

If I can help your Sunday School by doing worker training--please let me know. I would love to do it!

Praying for Strong Sunday Schools,

Dennis Thurman, Mission Strategist
