PROGRESS IN OUR RECOVERY

The horror that was Hurricane Helene was a disaster of epic proportions. We are still a long way in Haywood County from seeing a full recovery, but we are making progress--little by little. This week, my wife and I attended the Region 9 Missions Rally, where we received some exciting reports of how Christ was working through His Body--local churches coming together to impact lives with the Gospel.

At the end of January, this was reported:

Baptists on Mission is responding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the mountains of western North Carolina. Right after Helene hit, we set up large feeding and recovery (mud out, tear out, chainsaw, etc.) operations in 14 locations in Western North Carolina. Currently, we are operating 7 different sites. Volunteers have been helping with feeding, shower and laundry and recovery. We are also rebuilding homes. We are providing Essential Rapid Repairs (ERR) to get homeowners back into their homes as quickly as possible. You don’t need to be trained to serve. So far, more than 500,000 hot meals have been provided, over 12,000 volunteers have served and more than 5,000 recovery jobs on homes have been completed.

There is more--much more to be done. Let us pray, give, and work as we can. God will use us! Our greatest ability is availability.

Yours in His Service,

Dennis Thurman, AMS
