This Monday is Memorial Day--a day to remember that our freedoms were secured by the blood shed by men and women on the battlefield. It is a special day that deserves to be commemorated.
Christians have a day we are commanded to remember. Jesus said that we are to remember His sacrifice for us--His blood shed for sinners to be saved. Our freedom from sin's penalty, ongoing freedom from its power, and finally freedom from even sin's presence has been purchased by Christ's substitutionary death. We dare not forget.
Though there is not a specific day or number of days on the calendar, Jesus said that the Lord's Supper is to be regularly and reverently observed.
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. (1 Cor. 11:23-26 NKJV)
We must never be complacent about or careless in our observance of the Lord's Supper.
In Remembrance of Him,
Dennis Thurman, Mission Strategist
