REMEMBER YOUR PASTORS
“Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.” (Hebrews 13:7 NKJV)
Scripture commands us to remember our pastors.
Don’t forget they lead you, “those who rule over you.” It is a big responsibility to provide oversight to God’s flock. They are the sheep purchased by the Good Shepherd’s suffering and death. Pastors will give an account to God for leading them in the right direction.
Don’t forget they feed you, as those, “who have spoken the word of God to you.” Sheep need to be nourished by Biblical doctrine. The pastor’s duty is to faithfully declare the whole counsel of do. They will be judged for every word they speak.
Don’t forget they inspire you, “considering the outcome of their conduct.” When sheep follow a shepherd, they walk in the path he sets. The pastor must not only speak to the flock, but show the flock how to go. He models the message.
How do we remember them?
Pray for them. Be the pastor’s prayer partner. Nothing is more needed and appreciated.
Provide for them. You don’t pay them for the work they do, or you could not afford them. You give so they can concentrate on ministry, because you have provided the needs of the family.
Praise them. A word of appreciation puts fuel in their tank. Encouragement is the oxygen of the soul.
October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Do something special for these special servants. Take them out to eat. Give them some paid time off. Receive a love offering. Shoot them a text or mail them a card, expressing gratitude for their ministry. Set a Sunday aside for a guest speaker and honor your pastor, his wife, other staff on that Sunday with a church wide meal following.
Your Fellow Servant,
Dennis Thurman, Mission Strategist
