SPRING CLEANING

Spring means time for spring cleaning. Believe it or not, our Associational Office needs it! So, we are scheduling it for Saturday morning, April 23, beginning at 8 AM until we finish or you have to leave. You are invited to the fun! I will furnish doughnuts and coffee (with juice and/or water if you are not into the dark elixir).

As I think about it--Jesus did some spring cleaning the last week of His earthly ministry. He entered the Temple and drove out the moneychangers who were defiling it.

So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written,‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a‘den of thieves.’” (Mark 11:15-17 NKJV)

The truth is we can allow carnal clutter to accumulate in the temple of the Holy Spirit--our personal being. Evil thoughts can defile our minds. Selfish motives can dirty up our heart. Worldly decisions can detour us from God's will. Little by little, it happens--almost imperceptibly. If Jesus walked into your life today, what would He say? What would He do? As we come to Palm Sunday and many will be observing communion this week, let us be reminded of Paul's injunction, "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup." (1 Cor.11:28). John reminds us, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9).

Yours by God's Grace,

Dennis Thurman, Haywood Baptist AMS
